Dermal Rolling

“Dermal Needling/rolling is the only rejuvenation treatment that maximizes penetration of essential cell nutrients and maximizes the release of growth factors associated with the positive aspects of wound healing simultaneously”

Dermal Rolling has been around for many, many, years.  What I love about this technique is that it borrows from the principle of Chinese Medicine, a mode of treating disease I have been practicing for many years.  The foundation of Chinese Medicine is based on the fluid transition between yin and yang energies.  If blocked, disharmony occurs, and the aftermath of this imbalance is disease.  I will not bore you with the complexity of acupuncture, but its role is to open up blockages to allow for the ease of energy or “qi” to occur. If there is blockage in the body…there is pain and disease.  If there is no blockage, there is no disease or pain. The application of the needles creates stimulation and facilitates movement to correct the body’s energy and innate ability to heal itself.

In Chinese Medicine dermal rolling or plum blossom needling is often used to “vent” the skin. The needling also may decrease balding, treat alopecia and many types of skin conditions such as eczema.  The stimulation of the needles have been studied and proven effective in the treatment of facial paralysis as well as symptoms of numbness in the body.  And ladies, yes…it can work for cellulite!

What is it?

Dermal rolling is just that, a small device with a handle and a wheel. On the wheel there are hundreds of tiny needles. When rolled in specific and gentle movements the needles elicit many tiny pinpricks, causing micro trauma. The injury to the skin stimulates elastin, and collagen.  The great aspect of this procedure is that you are able to repeatedly introduce this technique to the face or other parts of your body to see rapid changes. Your skin regenerates every 40 days.  By repeating this process in as little as one to two times a week (minimum once a week, maximum 5 times a week) the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and scars are lessened.

The roller may be used on all types of skin with out the side effects of other treatments. Sensitive areas such as around the eyes require special care and it is important to clean the roller and soak in alcohol after each use.
Another great benefit of Dermal Rolling is how amazing the absorption of your favorite serum or skin cream will be. The mini pinpoint punctures provide a direct conduit into the skin, aiding with the skin’s health, healing process and youthful appearance.

The Dermal Rollers have different sizes and dimensions that correspond to body areas.  Very small 0.5mm for the face, 1mm, 1.5 mm, and larger sizes to work on legs and the buttocks.

Dermal rolling is great for:

  • Wrinkles
  • Fine lines
  • Stretch marks
  • Alopecia
  • Hair loss
  • Acne scars
  • Scars
  • Cellulite
  • Hyperpignmentation
  • Rosacea

The rollers are wonderful to use in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures such as needledermabrasion. One may also use the rollers after lasers and peels (as long as the healing process has been completed) to prolong the effectiveness of the treatments.
